Preferred Engineering Products introduces Slide‘N’Hide™ , the most versatile self-storing screen on the market. This patented, award-winning system features a roll-away screen which disappears into the door or window frame to offer a clear unobstructed view and easy access for cleaning. Slide‘N’Hide lets the user control when they want the screen – simply sliding it into place when it’s required and out of sight when it isn’t.

Industry sales have shown that homeowners will pay a premium for a roll-away window screen. Consumer polls indicate that homeowners are twice as likely to purchase a window with a retractable screen as one without. Slide‘N’Hide differs from other roll-away screens in that it is not
an add-on system but is actually integrated into the window frame at the time of manufacture.

Slide’N’Hide utilizes a patented system which encapsulates the entire screen in a cartridge which can be popped out of the window frame in seconds for repair or replacement. Assembly of the components into a complete cartridge can easily be done by the fabricator and is less time
consuming than standard fixed screen manufacturing.

A not so obvious benefit to the manufacturer is the elimination of shipping damage since the screen is protected in its stored position. Difficulties especially with large fixed screens, like hourglassing where the screen cloth distorts the screen bar are eliminated with Slide’N’Hide.
Homeowners will choose windows with the Slide’N’Hide system over other windows as it allows 50% more light in-to the home when stored as well as offering an unobstructed view and contributing to overall aesthetics of the home.

The Slide ‘N’ Hide system is available to fit any style of window or door and is included as standard equipment with some of our award winning Parallex™ system window hardware.

Reduced Manufacturing and Service Costs Slide‘N’Hide is easier to assemble than fixed screens and is quickly and easily installed into the window frame at the factory, increasing productivity by reducing time spent on screen construction. Dealers will also appreciate the simple cartridge design, which virtually eliminates service calls by allowing the homeowner to replace the screen without using a single tool.

Slide‘N’Hide
Homeowners like the improved view and increased daylighting that retractable screens provide, and many are willing to pay a premium to get what they want. The problem? Aftermarket add-on screens are often bulky, bolted-on, and difficult to install contraptions that can spoil the aesthetic design of the window. For manufacturers, add-on screens often mean significantly increased production costs, supply headaches, and often a margin too small to make it worthwhile.

The solution? Preferred Engineering set out to develop a retractable screen that can be integrated into the window frame. The result? An attractive, compact system with a lower production cost.
Integrated retractable screen systems increase aesthetic appeal
Growing consumer interest in retractable screens is creating a buzz within the window industry. Yet many manufacturers are still trying to figure out how to boost their bottom lines while accommodating consumer demand. Built-in screen systems are becoming the most popular choice – as a result of their built-in profitability.

Window manufacturers and dealers looking for ‘built-in’ value and a ‘clear’ way to differentiate themselves in a marketplace that’s resistant to change may want to set their sights on integrated retractable screen systems. Designed to provide homeowners with a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to cumbersome, aftermarket roll-away screens, these versatile, self-storing screen systems feature a roll-away window screen that is not a retrofitted add-on, but is actually built into the window frame during the manufacturing process.
However, stand-alone retractable window and door screens are usually labor-intensive and therefore costly for window manufacturers to entertain as a standard feature from the factory. Not surprisingly, the cost of adding a retrofit screen can approach the total cost of manufacturing an entire window. With those shrinking margins, window manufacturers need a much more economically attractive solution to meet ever-increasing consumer demand.
